Biography

Ranga Pae (rung • ga • pie). Take an eclectic musical journey around the Pacific Rim with Kimo & Jody of the world fusion group Ranga Pae: be refreshed by the Japanese koto with its reminiscent sound of waterfalls, the haunting melodies of bamboo flutes from Hawaii and Indonesia, the flavor of India with the sitar,  and the heartbeat of Bali through the bamboo tingklik. There's even something familiar waiting in the background of this musical oasis as you're likely to catch a reimagined classic rock tune, hip hop hit, or heavy metal song, a jazz standard, a world traditional piece, or an original Ranga Pae composition.

Ranga Pae (Encircling the Earth in Maori) was formed in 1995 by the husband and wife team of Kimo and Jody Huybrechts. Residing in Hawaii on the island of Maui, Kimo & Jody perform at Maui’s finest venues for corporate functions, community events, and weddings. From 2001 through 2008 they appeared nightly at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua's signature restaurant The Banyan Tree, and at the award-winning restaurant Merriman's Kapalua from 2008 to 2020.

In addition to being accomplished musicians trained in western and eastern music, Kimo & Jody both hold bachelor's degrees in cultural anthropology with additional coursework in ethnomusicology. Their mission is to promote appreciation of cultural music and instruments through performing, teaching, composing, and recording projects.

Ranga Pae has released three albums: Waihua, Full Circle, and Like Rain which are available to download or stream on your favorite music app. Their album Waihua was nominated "INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR" by the prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano Awards in 2010.
